The Diamond Sutra (金刚经) is a Prajnaparamita dialogue between Shakyamuni and Subhuti on the nature of perception and non-abiding mind; it is the oldest dated printed book in the world (868 CE) and central to Chan/Zen Buddhism.

The Diamond Sutra reveals that all phenomena are like a dream, a phantom, a bubble, a shadow — pointing to the non-abiding mind that generates unsurpassed enlightenment. Twelve key passages for contemplation.
rú shì wǒ wén : yī shí , fó zài shě wèi guó qí shù gěi gū dú yuán , yǔ dà bǐ qiū zhòng qiān èr bǎi wǔ shí rén jù 。
如是我聞:一時,佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園,與大比丘眾千二百五十人俱。
Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's garden in Shravasti, together with a great assembly of twelve hundred and fifty monks.
「 xū pú tí ! yú yì yún hé ? rú lái yǒu suǒ shuō fǎ bù ? 」 xū pú tí bái fú yán : 「 shì zūn ! rú lái wú suǒ shuō 。 」
「須菩提!於意云何?如來有所說法不?」須菩提白佛言:「世尊!如來無所說。」
"Subhuti, what do you think? Has the Tathagata taught any dharma?" Subhuti replied: "World-Honored One, the Tathagata has taught nothing."
「 xū pú tí ! zhū pú sà mó hē sà yīng rú shì xiáng fú qí xīn : suǒ yǒu yī qiè zhòng shēng zhī lèi …… wǒ jiē lìng rù wú yú niè pán ér miè dù zhī 。 rú shì miè dù wú liàng wú shù wú biān zhòng shēng , shí wú zhòng shēng dé miè dù zhě 。 」
「須菩提!諸菩薩摩訶薩應如是降伏其心:所有一切眾生之類……我皆令入無餘涅槃而滅度之。如是滅度無量無數無邊眾生,實無眾生得滅度者。」
"Subhuti, all bodhisattvas should subdue their minds as follows: of all sentient beings I shall lead them all to final nirvana. Yet having liberated immeasurable, innumerable, infinite beings, in truth no being has been liberated."
「 pú sà yīng lí yī qiè xiāng , fā ā nòu duō luó sān miǎo sān pú tí xīn , bù yīng zhù sè shēng xīn , bù yīng zhù shēng 、 xiāng 、 wèi 、 chù 、 fǎ shēng xīn , yīng shēng wú suǒ zhù xīn 。 」
「菩薩應離一切相,發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心,不應住色生心,不應住聲、香、味、觸、法生心,應生無所住心。」
"The bodhisattva should abandon all marks and arouse the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. They should not generate a mind that abides in form, sounds, smells, tastes, touch, or dharmas — they should generate a mind that abides nowhere."
「 xū pú tí ! rú héng hé zhōng suǒ yǒu shā shù , rú shì shā děng héng hé , yú yì yún hé ? shì zhū héng hé shā nìng wéi duō bù ? 」 xū pú tí yán : 「 shèn duō , shì zūn ! 」
「須菩提!如恒河中所有沙數,如是沙等恒河,於意云何?是諸恒河沙寧為多不?」須菩提言:「甚多,世尊!」
"Subhuti, suppose there were as many Ganges rivers as there are grains of sand in the Ganges. Would the grains of sand in all those rivers be many?" Subhuti said: "Exceedingly many, World-Honored One!"
「 xū pú tí ! ruò shàn nán zǐ 、 shàn nǚ rén , yǐ héng hé shā děng shēn mìng bù shī ; ruò fù yǒu rén , yú cǐ jīng zhōng , nǎi zhì shòu chí sì jù jì děng , wèi tā rén shuō , qí fú shèn duō 。 」
「須菩提!若善男子、善女人,以恒河沙等身命布施;若復有人,於此經中,乃至受持四句偈等,為他人說,其福甚多。」
"Subhuti, if a good man or woman were to sacrifice lives as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, but another person received and kept even a four-line verse of this sutra and taught it to others, that merit would be far greater."
「 xū pú tí ! rú lái suǒ dé ā nòu duō luó sān miǎo sān pú tí , yú shì zhōng wú shí wú xū 。 shì gù rú lái shuō : yī qiè fǎ jiē shì fú fǎ 。 」
「須菩提!如來所得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,於是中無實無虛。是故如來說:一切法皆是佛法。」
"Subhuti, the unsurpassed enlightenment attained by the Tathagata contains neither reality nor unreality. Therefore the Tathagata says: all dharmas are Buddha dharmas."
「 xū pú tí ! ruò rén yán : rú lái ruò lái ruò qù 、 ruò zuò ruò wò , shì rén bù jiě wǒ suǒ shuō yì 。 hé yǐ gù ? rú lái zhě , wú suǒ cóng lái , yì wú suǒ qù , gù míng rú lái 。 」
「須菩提!若人言:如來若來若去、若坐若臥,是人不解我所說義。何以故?如來者,無所從來,亦無所去,故名如來。」
"Subhuti, if anyone says the Tathagata comes or goes, sits or lies down, that person does not understand my teaching. Why? The Tathagata neither comes from anywhere nor goes anywhere — that is why they are called Tathagata."
「 xū pú tí ! fā ā nòu duō luó sān miǎo sān pú tí xīn zhě , yú yī qiè fǎ , yīng rú shì zhī , rú shì jiàn , rú shì xìn jiě , bù shēng fǎ xiāng 。 」
「須菩提!發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心者,於一切法,應如是知,如是見,如是信解,不生法相。」
"Subhuti, those who have generated the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment should know, see, and understand all dharmas in this way — without giving rise to the mark of dharmas."
「 xū pú tí ! ruò yǒu rén yǐ mǎn wú liàng ā sēng qí shì jiè qī bǎo chí yòng bù shī , ruò yǒu shàn nán zǐ 、 shàn nǚ rén , fā pú tí xīn zhě , chí yú cǐ jīng , nǎi zhì sì jù jì děng , shòu chí dú sòng , wèi rén yǎn shuō , qí fú shèng bǐ 。 」
「須菩提!若有人以滿無量阿僧祇世界七寶持用布施,若有善男子、善女人,發菩提心者,持於此經,乃至四句偈等,受持讀誦,為人演說,其福勝彼。」
"Subhuti, if someone filled immeasurable worlds with the seven treasures and gave them as an offering, and a good man or woman who has aroused the bodhi mind received, held, recited, and explained even a four-line verse of this sutra — that merit surpasses the former."
「 xū pú tí ! ruò shàn nán zǐ 、 shàn nǚ rén , shòu chí dú sòng cǐ jīng , ruò wèi rén qīng jiàn , shì rén xiān shì zuì yè , yīng duò è dào , yǐ jīn shì rén qīng jiàn gù , xiān shì zuì yè zé wéi xiāo miè , dāng dé ā nòu duō luó sān miǎo sān pú tí 。 」
「須菩提!若善男子、善女人,受持讀誦此經,若為人輕賤,是人先世罪業,應墮惡道,以今世人輕賤故,先世罪業則為消滅,當得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。」
"Subhuti, if a good man or woman who receives and recites this sutra is despised by others, their past karmic offenses that should lead to evil rebirths are extinguished through this present humiliation, and they will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment."
「 yī qiè yǒu wéi fǎ , rú mèng huàn pào yǐng , rú lù yì rú diàn , yīng zuò rú shì guān 。 」
「一切有為法,如夢幻泡影,如露亦如電,應作如是觀。」
"All conditioned phenomena are like a dream, a phantom, a bubble, a shadow — like dew, like lightning. One should contemplate them thus."
